Jerry (Class of ’13) teaches the Griffith Mates to make Chinese dumplings

Jerry, from China, is currently studying a Bachelor of Social Work at Griffith University Logan campus. He is interested in working in the mental health field and clinical settings. Apart from his academic life, he volunteers with Student Linx to increase his involvement in the local community.  He was able to learn AFL rules through a Student Linx AFL workshop and later became a Junior AFL goal umpire. Jerry is also a Griffith Mate and assists new students to settle their university life.

Stacey is from Australia and is in her first year of the Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery program at the Griffith University Gold Coast campus. She recently completed her Bachelor of Medical Science undergraduate program last year. In 2012, she went on an exchange to Canada and is keen to help other students who would like to go on an exchange. Her interests include photography, traveling and reading.

Penny, from China, is a Master of Education student at the Griffith University Gold Coast campus. She is a Griffith Mate and regularly volunteers with Student Linx. By working as a Mate, Penny is able to step out of her comfort zone and make friends from all over the world. She recommend more students to join the Student Linx family. Penny is passionate about education and also volunteer at a primary school to assist children with their homework. “I do believe that education changes people’s life.”

Giulia, from Italy, is currently studying a Bachelor of Science, majoring in Marine Biology at Griffith University (Gold Coast Campus). She is involved in many activities such as Student Linx beach volley team captain, Student Linx Spanish teacher and GI mates. Her passion has always been, since she was very young, the Ocean. Giulia is interested in any activity where water is involved. Some of her hobbies are Scuba Diving, Surfing/Bodyboarding, Beachvolley and travelling. She also loves languages and meeting new friends from all over the world. Giulia absolutely loves Australia and hopes to continue her adventure in this amazing country.

Lucy, from China, is currently doing a Griffith Business School Double Degree Program, majoring in Human Resources Management and Hotel Management. She loves people and enjoys being in the warm and friendly Griffith community. Since her first year, Lucy has been an active member working with support services for international students at Griffith, such as the GI Mates and Student Linx. She is now also a proud Griffith Business School leader, doing lots of volunteering work, both, inside and outside the university. She loves Australia and that is where she started her journey at the age of 16, meeting people from all over the world. She has the passion for travelling and intercultural communications, so now she has her eyes on some amazing Exchange Programs offered at Griffith University.

Ben from Germany is currently studying the Master of Engineering Management at Griffith University (Gold Coast campus). He’s also involved in several activities on campus, such as mentoring programs (GI Mates, Golden Key, StudentLinx) and the Toastmasters club. Passionate about the link between engineering and business he’s dedicated to a future here in Australia. On the way to a career in Engineering Management in Australia’s energy and resources sector he’s blogging and tweeting a lot about his experiences relating to professional skill development, looking for jobs and networking, but also about his favorite hobbies which include travelling and meeting friends.

Joanne is from Zimbabwe, a Bachelor of Commerce graduate & GI Mate and now Alumnus of Griffith University at the Nathan campus in Brisbane. She is making the most of her time here in Australia with all of the friends she has made. She has also made a very positive start in the art of Blogging!

Jack from China is currently studying the Bachelor of International Business at Griffith University (Nathan campus). He is a member of the world-famous GI Mates program assisting new students at Griffith to feel welcome as they get started with their enrolment and new student life. He’s passionate about his studies, enjoying his time in Australia to travel, making friends and especially his new role as a Brisbane International Student Ambassador.

Gabrielle is from China and arrived in Australia in July 2010. She is currently studying her Bachelor of Hotel Management at Griffith University. She became one of the GI Mates members for the Semester 1, 2012. Her interests include travelling, digging vintage markets, volunteering and photography.

Jose Cumsille is from Chile and arrived in Australia in August 2010. He is currently doing his Master`s in Environment at Griffith University. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics and a Master in Economics from “Potificia Universidad Católica de Chile” in Santiago. After discovering his real passion for environmental protection issues he decides to combine his professional background with the interdisciplinary approach of this program at Griffith. José likes enjoying a healthy life and enjoying good moments in the beach with friends and people.

Meng is going to travel the world

Meng was born in Beijing, China and immigrated to Australia in 1995 at the age of 7. She completed a Bachelor of Music at Griffith University Queensland Conservatorium in 2008 and in 2012 will be a 3rd year Bachelor of Oral Health (Dental Science) student at Griffith University Gold Coast. Aside from her studies Meng is also the Vice President Gold Coast of the Griffith Golden Key Socity. Her interests include volunteering, rural health, sci-fi and travelling to every continent in the world.  Meng hopes to organise many overseas placements during her studies.

She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics and has graduated from Master of Business (International Tourism & Hospitality Management). Yadi’s interests include, writing, travel, cooking and photography.

Sini is from Finland and studyied a Master of Business in International Tourism and Hospitality Management at Griffith University, Gold Coast campus. To travel and study in Australia was a dream come true for Sini even though it meant being thousands of miles from home. Sini joined the GI Mates program after having experienced similar mentor and student support programs at her home University. She has now been with the GI Mates team for 2 semesters and loved the work/fun of the International Student Orientation so much she wants to stay…

Patricia Rodriguez is from Ecuador has studied a Postgraduate Certificate in Business at the Southbank campus and is completing a Master of Marketing at Griffith University Nathan Campus. Patricia was a member of the GI Mates & GI Ambassadors programs and has this year been a member of the Brisbane International Student Ambassadors promoting the highlights of her time studying and living here in Australia. Patricia recently commenced work with Griffith International Marketing as a Marketing Officer where she continues to work closely with the GI Mates program and our international students.

Sebastian is from Colombia and having successfully completed a Bachelor of Popular Music with Honours at the Queensland Conservatorium (Griffith University, Gold Coast campus) is now working on his Phd (Doctorate) at the Queensland Conservatorium (Griffith University, Southbank campus). He is also a team leader with our GI Mates at both the Gold Coast and Southbank campuses and has been with the GI Mates program for nearly 5 years.

Cynthia is from Kenya and studies the International Master of Business Administration (IMBA) at the Griffith University, Gold Coast campus. Cynthia is a member of the GI Mates & GI Ambassadors programs and when she is not studying, Cynthia enjoys sleeping, shopping and eating plus time withe her new network of friends  from all over the world and of course writing for the Griffith International Students blog where she shares with us her experiences of life and study here in Australia.
