“Welcome to Brisbane & Griffith University!”
Those are the first words that many international students will hear when they arrive to study in Australia, as they are greeted by the Griffith University International MATES in their red Griffith shirts at Brisbane International Airport this February.
From the 1stĀ of February 2012, the world-famous GI Mates are piloting a new project where they will be working hand in hand with Brisbane International Airport in welcoming commencing international students. They will also take the opportunity to promote the Griffith University International Orientation Program which commences on Monday 13th February and the Brisbane Welcome event – BWIS 2012 – event held on Saturday 3rd March.
This new project was initiated by Griffith Accommodation and Griffith International. The key aim is providing immediate assistance to international students as they land, most often for the very first time, in Australia at the Brisbane International Airport.
Griffith International plans on having a team of experienced GI Mates, who are a peer support team (well-known for their friendly assistance) at the airport for the next four weeks attending to arrivals at both the international and domestic terminals.
The GI Mates will be available seven days a week from approximately – 7:30am to 3:00 pm, providing assistance to new international students as they prepare to study in Australia.
This service is primarily for students who have registered for the complimentary airport collection service and temporary accommodation with the Griffith Accommodation Office but any international student arriving at the airport for the first time can visit the Griffith University booth for help.
Visit the Griffith University International Degree Students website for planning and arrival information and bookings for the complimentary airport collection service and temporary accommodation
This project would not have been successful without the support given to Griffith University by Brisbane International Airport.
Best regards,
