First of all… Welcome to Griffith University!

If I got a dollar for every time I said those words as a GI Mate I could quit school, buy a plane and retire to my fully owned island somewhere in the Caribbean.

GI Mate name: Cynthia Nyakeya

Country of Origin: Kenya

Area of Study: International Masters in Business Administration (IMBA)

Campus: Gold Coast Campus

Date: Friday 8th July 2011 – Training Day

Dear GI Mate Diary

Today was an awesome day.

The Gold Coast GI Mates met with James and Patricia for their briefing for the orientation week which begins on Monday. The meeting was so much fun. I got to meet all my old pals and the new GI Mates who have joined the team this year. We had a few laughs and not one serious moment, but don’t get me wrong, the GI Mates never deviate from the business at hand. Patricia is a new member to the team, it was sad saying goodbye to Steph but I guess a change is as good as a rest. I have to say that the meeting was very informative especially when being reminded about the campus tours and all the other important staff. Colleen also added another member to the team and his name is Hamdi, I hope he enjoys the experience. After today’s briefing, the Gold Coast GI Mates team is ready to take on the coming week (fingers crossed).

P.S. the Pizzas for lunch was cool too…

BTW. we often speak of “building bridges” between the communities of the world. In Australia we have been “building barbeques”. Confused… check out the slideshow below.
