See a change of seasons – Winter Breaks in Queensland and Northern NSW

26 05 2011

What are you doing over the inter-semester or mid-year vacation?

Working hard to save the $$$

Make sure that you take a break. We all need some time to recharge between, work, study and life in general…

Autumn LeavesI was reflecting recently, with a friend, how I often hear students and colleagues from overseas ‘discussing’ the lack of any real seasonal change here in South-east Queensland. And they are right. Which is of course why a lot of Australians from the southern states, flock to Queensland during Winter, clamouring for a bit of our sunshine. Although this year is proving a bit unusual…

Having recently travelled out West to Warwick, Stanthorpe, Tenterfield, Armidale and on to Tamworth where we stopped for a farm-stay holiday, I can tell you that the change of seasons is very evident there. It is a picturesque, colourful and dramatic landscape so don’t forget your camera.

Sure crossing the Great Dividing Range in Australia is nothing like the traversing the Canadian or American Rockies, but you will see a stark difference between the climate and scenery of the famous Australian bush and the sub-tropical coast. Sub-zero nights sat by an open fireplace are followed by frosty mornings and warm, dry sun-filled days.

The Granite Belt (QLD) and New England (NSW) regions are famous for magnificent rocky gorges, waterfalls and rivers, historic towns, a vibrant culture, and for the contrasting beauty of four distinct seasons.

So if you need a break and don’t mind rugging up on some Winter woolies, check out some of these websites and Go West for a change of scene… You won’t regret it.

You will enjoy the change of seasons, the falling Autumn leaves and maybe realise how much you really love the climate here, most of the time…

Make the most of your time and experience in Australia and at Griffith University.

Happy Winter Vacations!
